Crew Colors

The PPA crew color is blue. But because collecting clothing is one of the entertaining aspects of Puzzle Pirates, and many people enjoy assembling their own outfits, you are not required to wear blue. You are, however, encouraged to mix blue into your outfit somewhere.

The PPA distinguishes rank within the crew through the use of headgear, likes bandanas, caps, and hats. You should wear the headgear appropriate for your rank, as detailed below. We've offered some color choices, so you have a bit of flexibility.

We use headgear because a picture of your pirate's head appears in the duty puzzle report, as well as in the swordfighting interface. Thus, you can quickly see who to ask for help, and our officers will be able to quickly tell which mates are more experienced, which mates might need extra help, and the like.

When you are promoted, you will pass your headgear down to a mate who is being promoted into the rank you just left. You'll accept the responsibility of being his mentor; you'll be someone who will be a familiar face that he can go to if he's got questions or needs help but for whatever reason, doesn't want to go to an officer about it.

The crew will fund the purchase of headgear when necessary.

The headgear colors corresponding to each rank are as follows:

Cabin Person: Do not wear any headgear.

Urchin (cabin person): Wear white or grey headgear.

Sailmaster or Carpenter (pirate): Wear blue or navy headgear.

Gunner (pirate): Wear red, maroon, or pink headgear.

Midshipman or Navigator (OiT): Wear purple headgear. No captain's hats.

Boatswain or Ambassador (officer): Wear purple headgear. Can wear a captain's hat.

Instructors: Wear a blue captain's hat.
