Friends

I've been privileged to meet a lot of weird and wonderful people over the years. Here are links of some of my friends.

This page is woefully incomplete.

DC-Area People

Brian Sullivan
Brian is Neat. Everyone agrees on this point, despite the fact (or perhaps because of the fact) that he does not MUSH. (He has, however, been sucked into roleplaying games.) Brian is the source of much esoteric knowledge, sanity, and soothing hugs. Not to mention books, and chocolate. He says he has thus cleverly ensured that he'll be on the right side when I eventually take over the world. Since I agreed to marry him, his future place in my New World Order seems assured.

Deborah Donoghue (nee' Lupo)
Network engineer, former AmberMUSH and DIGEX-er, voice of etiquette in an etiquette-less world. Nods tolerantly when I rant about the weird life problems I run into. One day, she'll be a classic Jewish Mother. Also, she married Rob, which I regard as a Good Thing.

Rob Donoghue (aka Moose)
Former AmberMUSHer, Capitol Hill researcher, another token non-techie (except he really is). Rob likes books. A whole lot. And he's willing to lend them out. Plus he knows how to find good books. This instantly elevates him to coolness, in my eyes.

Fred Hicks (aka Iago)
Former AmberMUSHer, ex-DIGEXer, and former housemate. Fred is cheerfully evil, and he has blue hair. He married Christie, who really needs to get a real home page, but is nonetheless incredibly cool. They wander around the universe finding nifty things.

David Passmore (aka Lauren)
DIGEX-er, former housemate, but emphatically not an AmberMUSHer. David is occasionally the other half of my brain. He has more comics than God. Why his alter-ego is female is a question you'll have to ask him yourself.

Josh Hall
DIGEX-er, former housemate, AmberMUSHer. A whole lot of bitterness wrapped up in a big bundle of cute. Josh wins the Fundamentally a Nice Guy contest.

Cam and Jess Banks
Wacky and weird and fun people. And yes, even wackier and weirder than the other people listed on this page. Stuck in the wilds of Pennsylvania, unfortunately (and thus only honorary DC-area people).

Malkin, aka Tess Snider
DIGEX-er, AmberMUSHer (yet another wizard). The rare woman who can out-tech-talk any guy.

Seraph, aka Scott Morgan
DIGEX-er, former housemate, AmberMUSHer (indeed, one of the hapless fellows who's taken a wizbit there). The token (very talented) artist in a group of geeks.

Bay Area People

Jarrod Norton
Jarrod is the resident mad scientist of our little social enclave; he can tell you everything from how to clean the silver, to how to build a bomb. We met on PernMUSH ages ago, and I'm still a bit startled to have him show back up in my life years later.

Shai Norton
Shai holds the distinction of being the most evil among us; she can deliver creatively twisted in a tone which is utterly, sweetly Southern. I first met her on Belgariad MUSH, over a decade ago; I'm still bemused, but pleased, that she married Jarrod and moved out here.

Merlin, aka Earl Miles
Former AmberMUSHer, social nexus for part of the Bay Area crowd, and amazingly tolerant host. I sometimes wonder if he's Josh Hall's evil twin. Now married to the inestimable Lynette.

Christopher Hatty
AmberMUSHer, but I didn't meet him that way, for once. Works for Danger, makers of one of the neatest mobile wireless devices on the planet.

Fire, aka Chris Page
A long-time buddy of mine, from his early days as a sword-wielding twink on PernMUSH through Belgariad, Amber, and too many MUSHes to count, to his present-day state as cynical dino.

Ambar, aka Jean Marie Diaz
Former PernMUSH wizard, now host to TooMUSH. Ambar is responsible in odd ways for a number of things in my life -- she was the person who told me to RTFM while still giving me hints in the right directions, thereby indirectly prodding me to develop decent debugging and sysadmin skills. When I think of the BofH image of the sysadmin, she's still the one who comes to mind.

Other People (mostly from MUSHing)

Jeff Vance
One of my very first friends on PernMUSH, and the founding god of AmberMUSH, who, despite all odds, somehow grew up into responsible adulthood. In one of those brain-bending twists of fate, he became my successor as engineering director at DIGEX. He's since moved to California as part of the Grand Exodus from DC.

Kelley Vance
Another old PernMUSH friend, who still hasn't given it up. In spite of that and being married to Jeff, she has somehow managed to stay sane despite it all.

Eslin, aka Caroline Elliott
Former AmberMUSHer and a source of evil, even if she doesn't want to admit it. Give her a nice, happy, little plant, and you'll get something back later which looks like a nice, happy, little plant, but which will eat your soul.

Loris, aka Sheryl Galchutt
Former housemate and ex-DIGEX-er. Former player of Random on Patternfall MUSH, designer of the authentic pentagonal castle. I think I've clocked more roleplay hours with her than anyone else I know.

Magister
AmberMUSHer. One of the last innocents left on the planet. He promises to feed the fluff chocolate and grapes. Unfortunately, he's in Australia.
