Ars Magica: Notes for Beginners
Ars Magica is, by and large, one of the more difficult systems to simply
pick up and start playing. Compounding the difficulties of a verbose
and poorly-organized 3rd Edition rulebook is the simple fact that it's never
really made clear what's essential in character and Covenant creation.
This set of documents is based upon various discussions on the Ars Magica
mailing lists, and with the Deadfire Saga's players. Bill Brickman's
document on beginning covenant and character creation forms the
seed for this one.

These are not hard-and-fast rules. You can, of course, deliberately
choose to ignore the advice; the advice is provided so that you can
make any character weaknesses deliberate, not simply oversights
from having missed some subtle aspect of the rules.
