Notes:
Sieta means "Seventh" and that's what she was, years ago, the seventh daughter of a poor peasant couple of the Rock. As a seventh child, she was destined for trouble, and it found her in her fourteenth year. Drawn from the side o
f her newborn daughter in the middle of the night, she was taken by the "mountain devils" to act as midwife to a birth. She helped birth the children, and acted as nurse and foster mother for them and her own daughter for three years. Her service was te
rminated when she, despite orders not to, put some of the salve she was to rub on the children's eyes on her own. Immediately she gained the Sight, and saw the true state of the place she'd been living in for three years-- and the true form of her charge
s. She fled, back to the arms of her husband, and never spoke of her disappearance-- but the old women of the Rock knew. One day years later, when she and her daughter were at the market in Ragusa, she spotted one of her charges putting something in the
deacon's bag. Running up, she knocked it out, and screamed an accusation at the devil. It turned, and took out her eye for seeing it, and disappeared. After that, she was marked as one with the Sight, and had to return to the Rock, where only magi and
the old folk of the Rock would accept her. Now she is a grandmother, with a large family to support her. She has taken a great interest in her granddaughter Maria, who was her daughter's seventh daughter. She teaches the old arts and legends to her, a
nd takes her out to learn when the magi ask old Nonna Sieta to help them ferret out some magic.
