Here's a trivia question that tells you a little bit about the kind of people who live in that region of the world. I picked it up while doing research this week, didn't put it in the DeadWeb because it's WAY ahistorical to the campaign setting.
Question: Why aren't there any noble families in Ragusa anymore?
Answer:
Because after Napolean conquered the city, ending 900 years of republican self-rule, all the noble families swore they would never again have children, because of the horrible tragedy of growing up beholden to a foreign power.
And you know what? They never did have any more children. Not a one. Wiped out 35 bloodlines in one generation.
Wheee.
These are some seriously dedicated people. Never go half way.
