: Mage: : [...] : Unable to kill myself due to Asatar's intervention, I wandered around, : gradually moving further and further away from Arabia, until I ended : up in Dalmatia. Wanting isolation more than anything, I stumbled upon : a young woman in a bar, lamenting her troubles. It seemed that her : family owned a large island with a lighthouse, but she could not pay : the inheritance tax and it was going to be taken over by the local : lord. So, eventually deciding to use my powers one last time, I : persuaded the local lord to let me run the lighthouse. So myself, : Asatar, and Lidija lived uneventfully in the lighthouse for around 10 : years.
Let's rewrite that so that Lidija and her family gained inheritance through the death of distant and forgotten relations, and only became aware of their ownership shortly before your arrival. I want the lighthouse to have been built around 200 years ago, perhaps by Italian/Venetian merchant interests, and since abandoned, when the trade routes shifted slightly south. So the chronology goes:
1100 - Lidija's very distant ancestor is commissioned to build and run the lighthouse by Italian mercantilers.
1175 - Changing shipping routes make the lighthouse obsolete. It is eventually left abandoned and forgotten.
1315 - Lidija and her family become aware of their inheritance when the local lord decides to annex it for personal use. The discovery that they have the ancient title to the lighthouse and land does not sit well with the local lord, who immediately begins to bring pressure (in the form of tax collectors) to bear on them. Luckily, your Magus arrives and is able to use his wealth/powers/whatever to protect the lighthouse. Sensing a powerful magical aura that clings to the place (and reminds him of home), he decides to take up residence.
1317? - Pete's Magus, Elijah, comes to the village. Upon meeting your Magus, and also sensing the potency of the ground (and maybe to help out the villagers or what-have-you) Elijah decides to stay.
1315-1325 - Other Magi find and join the As-Yet-Unnamed-Covenant.
