Further Discussion on the Covenant

From the meeting on November 9th:

The consensus seemed to be leaning towards a Summer covenant, that is, a well-established and secure organization on its way up to the peak of its power. If we do go with a Summer covenant, you each need to select one of the following for each Magus and Companion character: Founder, Long-Time Resident, Recent Arrival, Just Arrived. The date of the founding of the Covenant (by John's Magus, I believe?) would be 10 years before the game start date, in 1315. At the time, John's Magus had renounced magic, but the ground of the Covenant has a powerful Magical aura (hmmmmm ...) which would have attracted other Covenant-less Magi. I'd like to see ideas and comments on how the Covenant went from a lonely old ex-wizard lighthouse-keeper to its current state, please.

Geographic details: original building, an old lighthouse, since reinforced and expanded to house the Magi, their Companions and Grogs, quarters, labs, kitchens, dining halls, dungeon (if wanted), etc. The lighthouse sits on a promontory of rock separated from the shore by either a causeway (that floods with the tide) or a natural bridge (permanent, but could be blasted by magic in case of emergency). The size of the lighthouse's island remains to be decided: it could be large enough to accomodate a small village of fisherman, or so small that the incoming tide laps about the base of its walls. In this case, the village could be located on the shore opposite the lighthouse. It's also possible to eliminate the village and associated covenfolk entirely, isolating the lighthouse further from the outside world (i.e., it faces tall cliffs and tangled vegetation on the shore). It will be within a day or so's ride to a fair-sized town/city, most likely a Venetian or Genoese possession (though peopled mainly with native Balkan peasants), with an attached castle that is the seat of the local lord, most likely a Baron. It is by this lord that Squint holds his authority.

Comments, please.
